Frequently asked questions.

How can therapy help me?

As a therapist, my priority is to provide a safe environment for discussion of any and all presenting issues you may be facing. Along with this, therapy can teach you how to process your emotions through discussion, coping skills, and other techniques. Therapy can also help you develop a new perspective on the problems you are experiencing and ways to think about them and challenge them. You can also learn more about yourself and develop an understanding of any psychological stressors you are experiencing currently, as well as those you experienced in the past. Lastly, therapy provides a space where goals can be established and worked toward each session.

How long is a therapy session?

The length of therapy sessions can differ depending on the needs of the individual. Typically, a therapy session can run anywhere from 45-60 minutes.

What can I expect in a therapy session?

Intake Appointment: During the first session, which is called the intake appointment, I ask different questions in order to gather basic information such as your background, career, family and social relationships, etc. Most importantly, we briefly discuss what is bringing you in for counseling services.

All Other Sessions: For the remaining sessions of therapy, after the intake appointment, we begin a deeper exploration of the presenting problems you are experiencing. We then collaboratively establish goals and begin to work towards them. You can also expect to have some ‘homework’ in between sessions to ensure your goals can be met!

What does confidentiality mean and how does it apply to virtual therapy?

Because of confidentiality, everything discussed in session will stay between us. The only time confidentiality would be breached is if there is an immediate danger or threat towards yourself or someone else or if records are ever subpoenaed by the court. In regards to safety via virtual counseling, I utilize HIPAA compliant platforms and provide counseling in a private setting.
